Wesleyville Borough in Erie County has a new playground thanks in part to a $79,100 DCNR grant.
Funding came from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund. The Borough also received a $79,100 Community Development Block Grant from Erie County to provide the matching funds toward the new play equipment at Memorial Park.
This project rehabilitated a Land and Water Conservation Fund site. The project included the construction of ADA-accessible pedestrian walkways, bench seating areas, and parking area along with installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing.
“Our playground equipment had not been updated since the mid-1970’s. Many of the playground equipment pieces were no longer safe for the children to play on and had to be removed,” said Regina Julius, Wesleyville Borough Council President. “We now have updated, safe equipment for our children thanks to DCNR.”
By making investments such as these, DCNR provides opportunities for all members of the community to regularly engage in outdoor recreation.
