Buttonwood Park

By Don Canepa and Sue Schneck

Community Members

Buttonwood Park is a little gem in the center of Yardley Borough, a culmination of more than a decade of planning, community involvement, fundraising, and grant writing. In addition to the enjoyment of the green space by residents and visitors for passive recreation, many local events occur regularly in the park, including Easter egg hunts, live concerts, the Healthy Kids 5K Fun Walk and the Yardley 5K Run, and the culmination of the annual Christmas parade and ceremonious Christmas tree lighting.

In May 2015, Buttonwood Park became a Saturday morning destination for hundreds of local residents with the opening of the first Yardley Farmers’ Market. The Yardley Farmers’ Market, started by community volunteers, is held in Buttonwood Park every Saturday morning from 9 AM to 1 PM from May to October. 2017 will be our third year. Families and neighbors come together to shop for local food, enjoy the daily entertainment, and meet up with other friends and family. It’s the perfect location for the market, and the market could not exist without it.

Public parking is available within the park, but with its convenient location, many customers just walk to the market. The market enables local farmers and food artisans to have a direct-to-consumer outlet for their produce and other foods, and is a source for delicious and wholesome foods for the community. The market has even increased traffic for the local businesses in town, which is a win-win for everyone!

The success of the Market couldn’t have happened without the support of the community and Yardley Borough in allowing the use of Buttonwood Park.
