Trexler Nature Preserve

By Bob Grimes

Hiker

My wife Donna and I have been enjoying the beautiful scenery and tranquility of Trexler Preserve in Lehigh County for many years. The numerous walking and hiking trails following the high ridges and along the Jordan Creek are a wonderful place to enjoy nature and provide a good workout, especially with your dog! The wildlife is plentiful, with deer, fox, and many species of birds including blue herons and occasionally bald eagles.

Just recently we were walking along the creek when suddenly a bald eagle flew down along the middle of the creek, looking for fish, right at our eye level! What a thrilling experience! We had seen them high up in the sky, but never that close. We also love seeing the elk and bison that live on the preserve in the adjacent fields, after hiking to the top of one of our favorite trails.

Meeting many of the regulars who we routinely see walking their dogs (whose names we always remember, even if we forget the names of their owners) is very enjoyable.
