After more than a year of construction, state and local leaders recently cut the ribbon on the new Chutes and Ladders Playground at Reservoir Park in Harrisburg. “Our parks are the cornerstone of our community,” said Harrisburg Mayor Wanda R.D. Williams. “Thirty years from now, the children here today will tell their children about the time their parents took them to the famous Chutes and Ladders Playground.” [YouTube Video of the Chutes and Ladders Playground Opening Event.] The playground is fashioned after the classic board game of the same name. Kids can climb and slide on dozens of pieces of equipment.
Harrisburg posted a virtual tour of the new playground as part of the grand opening. DCNR supported the playground with a grant from the Keystone Recreation, Parks and Conservation Fund. As impressive as it is, the Chutes and Ladders Playground is only the first step in a multi-phased redevelopment plan for Reservoir Park. Construction will begin later in 2023 on Phase 2, which includes a spray park, pavilion, ADA-accessible playground equipment, and more.
